When summer temperatures peak on the North Shore, there’s nothing like staying cool and comfortable inside your home to escape the heat. If you’re fortunate enough to have a home with central A/C it’s important to know the signs that it might be time for a new system.
- Your Home Just Isn’t Cool Enough
Typically, home air conditioning systems have a lifespan of 10-15 years when properly maintained. At the end of its life, your A/C system may no longer produce air cool enough to meet demand. If an annual tune-up doesn’t help with this problem, it may be time for a new unit.
- You’re Noticing Moisture/Humidity Inside Your Home
One job of an air conditioning unit is to remove humidity inside your home. Lower humidity levels allow you to feel comfortable even if you keep your thermostat turned up a few degrees. As your system ages, the evaporator coil may not run efficiently causing your home to feel clammy and uncomfortable. If you notice fog on your windows and moisture around your vents and/or ductwork, it’s time to consider a new system for your home.
- The Unit is Making A Lot of Noise
When your air conditioning is running, you should not be hearing any squeaking, rattling, grinding or squealing noises from the unit. If you start to notice any unusual and annoying sounds from your A/C, it could be time to look into new options to keep you cool inside your home this summer.
- Your Energy Bills Have Gone Way Up
If the monthly cost of running your air conditioning system has gone through the roof it could be an indication that your system is laboring to get the job done. Older systems are less efficient in general, however, if your system is running all the time it could be an indication that it has lost its cooling capability.
