Heating Oil Industry Commits To Net-Zero CO2 Emissions by 2050

October 2019

The Northeast’s heating oil industry has set a goal to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2050. This ambitious objective was established at the Northeast Industry Summit held during the 2019 Heating & Energizing America Trade Show (the HEAT Show) at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The industry’s resolution calls for:
• 15% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2023;
• 40% reduction by 2030; and
• Net-zero-carbon emissions by 2050.

For several years, the heating oil industry has been researching and working towards the utilization of a “Greener” fuel that is environmentally friendly and renewable. Currently, retail heating oil companies including Scott Energy deliver an Ultra-Low Sulfur biofuel blend, which is better for the environment and a step in the right direction.

This existing product gives customers the benefit of near-zero emissions from ultra-low heating oil. The renewable Bioheat component to the new blend will help reduce emissions even more. This new goal to further reduce emissions reflects the heating oil industry’s commitment to be a key player in the climate change discussion taking place today.

At Scott Energy, we support the industry’s direction to a greener future for our environment and will be actively involved with the move to a fuel with net-zero CO2 emissions. Since we currently serve as board members for Massachusetts Energy Marketers Association (MEMA), New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) and the National OilHeat Research Alliance (NORA) we will participate in the strategic planning and implementation of this initiative. Rest assured, Scott Energy will be here for you every step of the way.
